Spends is a budgeting app you can talk to. This page says what it does with your
information, briefly and honestly.
The short version
- Keep your budgets to yourself and your financial data stays on your iPhone. We never receive it.
- Share a budget and that budget is uploaded so everyone in it can see it, including everything already in it.
- Speech recognition is Apple's. For some languages it runs on Apple's servers.
- No ads, no tracking, no analytics, nothing sold on.
- You can delete your account and its server data from inside the app.

On your iPhone
Your transactions, budgets, categories and settings are stored on your device. Your own iCloud Backup
may include them; that is a setting between you and Apple.
When you share a budget
- Sharing or joining creates an anonymous account: a random identifier, no name or email.
- The shared budget is uploaded: amounts, descriptions, dates, categories and notes. For voice entries
the note is the transcript of what you said. Existing history comes along, not just new spends.
- Everyone in the budget can read it, and can edit or delete entries. The invite link is a key: treat it
like a password.
- Hosting runs on Supabase. Requests carry your IP address and iOS version, as any
server traffic does.
- Stopping sharing hides the budget for everyone. Deleting your account removes the account and your
memberships; entries you added to someone else's budget stay with that budget.
Speaking to the app
Voice recordings are transcribed by Apple's speech framework and the audio clip is deleted afterwards.
For most languages that happens on your device; when your chosen language has no offline model, Apple's
framework uses Apple's servers. We never receive your audio.
Your rights
Everything is in the app: your data on screen, a CSV export in Settings, and account deletion under
Settings. For anything else under the GDPR, from access to erasure, write to
hello@spends.nl. Complaints can go to the
Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens.
Spends is not aimed at children under 16. If how the app handles data changes, this page changes with
it, and the date above moves.
