These terms cover your use of the Spends app. They are meant to be readable. If something here is unclear, ask us rather than guessing.
Spends is made and provided by Maarten Mughal, based in the Netherlands, reachable at hello@spends.nl.
You may use Spends on the Apple devices you own or control, in line with the App Store terms. You may not attempt to break, resell or reverse engineer it, or use it to do something illegal.
Your budgets and transactions belong to you. We do not sell them, mine them, or use them to advertise to you. The privacy policy explains exactly where your data sits and when any of it reaches our server.
When you share a budget you are choosing to show your entries in it to the people you invite. Everyone in a shared budget can read, edit and delete everything in that budget. Treat an invite link like a password, because anyone holding it can join and read the full history.
If you own a shared budget you decide who is in it. If you want to leave a budget you own to the others, hand it over to another member first.
Spends helps you see what you have spent and what is left. It is a record-keeping tool, not financial, tax or investment advice, and it is not a bank or a payment service. It never moves money. The Apple Pay feature only reads what a payment was, so it can be written into your own records for you. Decisions you make about your money remain yours.
Voice entry and automatic categorisation get things wrong sometimes. Amounts can be misheard and categories can be misfiled. Check anything that matters, and correct entries in the app when they are wrong. We cannot be responsible for decisions made on numbers that were entered incorrectly.
The app works offline, and the parts of it that need our server are only the shared budgets. We do our best to keep that running, but we cannot promise it is never unavailable. Keep your own copy of anything you cannot afford to lose; Settings has a CSV export.
Spends starts with a free trial, so the app can prove itself first. After that it costs €5 per month, cancelled whenever you like through your App Store subscriptions. Features you already rely on will not be taken away without notice.
You can stop using Spends whenever you like by deleting the app. If you created an account by sharing a budget, use Settings and then Delete account first, so the account goes too. We may end your access if you use the app to harm others or to break the law.
Spends is provided as it is. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss. Nothing here limits rights you have as a consumer under Dutch or EU law, and those rights always come first.
Dutch law applies. If we cannot resolve a dispute together, it goes to the competent court in the Netherlands, without affecting your right as a consumer to bring a case where you live.
If these terms change we will update this page and the date at the top, and we will tell you in the app if the change is significant.
